About Roberts Complete Auto Care

Who owns Roberts Complete Auto Care?

Roberts Complete Auto Care is a family-owned shop at 140 Brock Street, Unit 2, in Barrie, Ontario. The business was founded in 2012 by Doug Roberts, who spent his career building a reputation for honest, no-pressure automotive service in the Barrie community. Following Doug’s passing in June 2024, his daughter Shelley and her husband Derek Clark took over the business. Derek manages day-to-day shop operations as Service Manager, and Shelley handles marketing and communications. Our mom Barb still holds a share in the business. This is still very much a family shop, and we intend to keep it that way.

Are your technicians certified?

Yes. Our shop is staffed by licensed and apprentice automotive technicians. Marc Finkelstein is a licensed 310S Automotive Service Technician — the standard Red Seal certification for automotive service in Ontario. Liam Johnstone is a 3rd Year Apprentice Technician working toward his own certification. And our newest team member, Andrew Harrison is also a licensed 310S Automotive Service Technician. As a certified NAPA AutoCare Centre, we are also required to meet NAPA’s standards for technical training and shop practices. You can trust that the people working on your vehicle know what they’re doing.

What is a NAPA AutoCare Centre, and why does it matter?

NAPA AutoCare is a network of independently owned repair shops that meet NAPA’s standards for equipment, training, and customer service. Being a certified NAPA AutoCare Centre means we have access to quality NAPA parts, participate in ongoing technical training, and are accountable to a national standard, not just our own. It also means we can offer the NAPA Peace of Mind Warranty, which extends your protection well beyond what most independent shops offer. You get the personal service of a family business with the backing of one of the most recognized names in the automotive industry.

What is your relationship with Fix Auto Barrie North?

Fix Auto Barrie North is a separate family business that operates across the parking lot from us, specializing in collision repair and autobody work. It was also founded by Doug Roberts, originally as Roberts Collision in 1979, which became Fix Auto Barrie North in 2003. Following Doug’s passing, his daughter Kim Roberts and her business partner Greg Dunn took over Fix Auto. We happily refer customers to each other regularly. If your vehicle needs mechanical work, that’s us. If it needs collision repair, Fix Auto Barrie North is right there.

Our Services

What kinds of vehicles do you service?

We service all makes and models — domestic, import, Asian, and European. Cars, trucks, SUVs, minivans, and light commercial vehicles. If it has an engine and four wheels, we can work on it. We also offer fleet maintenance programs for businesses with multiple vehicles. The only vehicles we don’t service are heavy trucks and off-road equipment.

What services do you offer?

We are a full-service mechanical repair and maintenance shop. Our core services include oil changes, brake repair, tire services, wheel alignment, vehicle safety inspections, car diagnostics, A/C repair, transmission service, and fleet maintenance. We also handle suspension and steering, exhaust, batteries, belts and hoses, cooling systems, and most other mechanical repairs. If you’re not sure whether we handle a specific job, just call us, we’ll tell you honestly.

Do I have to take my new car to the dealership for maintenance?

No. Under Canadian federal law, taking your vehicle to an independent repair shop for routine maintenance does not void your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the work is done according to the manufacturer’s specifications and documented properly. We follow those specifications and provide full documentation of every service we perform. Many of our customers switched to us from dealerships after their new-car warranty period ended, or sooner once they realized they had a choice. We offer the same quality of work at a more personal level of service, and we won’t upsell you on things you don’t need. For more detail on this, see our blog post: Your New Car Doesn’t Have to Go Back to the Dealership.

What's included in your oil change service?

Every oil change at Roberts Complete Auto Care includes a multi-point visual inspection of your vehicle, not just a fluid swap. We check your filters, belts, hoses, brakes, tires, and other key systems while we have the vehicle in the shop. If we notice anything that needs attention, we’ll tell you about it clearly and explain what it means before we do anything further. No surprises, no pressure. You decide what gets done.

Do you do safety inspections for vehicle ownership transfers in Ontario?

Yes. We perform Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) safety inspections for used vehicle ownership transfers. A passing safety certificate is required when you buy or sell a used vehicle in Ontario. Our licensed technicians inspect your vehicle against the MTO’s standards and issue the certificate if the vehicle passes. If it doesn’t pass, we’ll explain what needs to be repaired and give you a clear estimate. Learn more on our safety inspection page.

Do you offer fleet vehicle maintenance?

Yes. We work with local businesses and organizations that need to keep one or more commercial vehicles maintained and on the road. Fleet clients benefit from priority scheduling, consistent documentation, and a single point of contact who knows your vehicles. If your business relies on vehicles, keeping them maintained proactively is almost always less expensive than dealing with breakdowns. Contact us to discuss your fleet’s needs, there’s no one-size-fits-all program, and we’ll work with you to figure out what makes sense. More information is available on our fleet maintenance page.

Pricing, Estimates & Payment

Can I get a quote over the phone?

For simple, standardized services like oil changes, tire rotations, or battery replacements, we can usually give you a solid price range over the phone. For repairs involving diagnosis like brakes, suspension, electrical issues, or check engine lights, an accurate estimate requires us to actually see the vehicle. We know that’s not always the answer people want, but giving you a number over the phone without seeing the car would mean guessing, and a guess that turns out wrong doesn’t serve anyone. When you bring the vehicle in, we’ll inspect it, explain what we find, and give you a full estimate before any work begins. You’re never committed to anything until you approve it.

Do you charge a diagnostic fee?

Some inspections do involve a minimal diagnostic fee, depending on the complexity of the issue. Connecting a vehicle to a scan tool for a basic code read is a quick process; diagnosing an intermittent electrical problem or a noise that only appears under specific conditions takes considerably more time. When a diagnostic fee applies, we will tell you upfront what it is before we begin. If you proceed with the repair, the diagnostic time is typically factored into the overall job. We don’t hide fees, if there’s a cost, you’ll know about it in advance.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, debit, cash, and e-transfer. We do not currently offer financing or payment plans. If cost is a concern for a larger repair, talk to us. We’ll give you a clear breakdown of what’s urgent and what can be safely deferred, so you can make an informed decision about what to address first.

Do you use OEM or aftermarket parts?

We use quality NAPA parts as our primary supplier, which includes both OEM-equivalent and premium aftermarket components. For most repairs, quality aftermarket parts perform at the same level as OEM parts and are covered under warranty. If you have a preference for OEM parts on your vehicle, let us know, we can discuss the options and cost difference. What we won’t do is use cheap parts to lower a quote. The quality of the parts matters to the quality of the repair, and we stand behind our work.

Will you install parts that I supply or purchase myself?

No, and we want to be straightforward about why. Safety is the primary reason. When we source parts, we know exactly where they came from, what quality standard they meet, and whether they are appropriate for your specific vehicle. Parts purchased online or from retail stores vary widely in quality, and some that appear identical to the correct component are not. Installing a part that fails — a brake caliper, a wheel bearing, a tie rod end — is not an inconvenience. It is a safety risk to you, your passengers, and everyone else on the road.

The second reason is our warranty. We back every repair we perform with our 24-month/40,000km warranty on parts and labour. That warranty only means something if we control the quality of what goes into your vehicle. We cannot warranty a repair built around a part we didn’t source and cannot vouch for. Some shops will install customer-supplied parts without warranty coverage, we understand that, but it’s not how we operate. We stand behind our work completely, and that starts with standing behind the parts we use.

Warranty

What warranty do you offer on parts and labour?

We offer a combined 24-month/40,000km warranty on parts and labour — one of the strongest warranties available from an independent shop in Barrie. This is built from two layers: the standard NAPA Peace of Mind Warranty of 12 months/20,000km, plus our own additional 12-month/20,000km coverage on top of that. If something we repaired fails within the warranty period, we make it right. Full details are on our warranty page.

Is your warranty offered at other shops if I'm travelling?

The NAPA Peace of Mind Warranty component of our warranty is honoured at participating NAPA AutoCare Centres across Canada and the United States — there are thousands of locations. So if you’re travelling and something covered under that warranty needs attention, you’re not stranded. Contact us and we’ll help coordinate. Our own additional warranty coverage applies here in Barrie, but the NAPA portion travels with you.

Does bringing my care to RCAC void my manufacturer's warranty?

No. As noted above, Canadian law protects your right to choose where you have your vehicle serviced without voiding the manufacturer’s warranty, provided the work follows manufacturer specifications and is properly documented. We do both.  If you have specific concerns about a warranty situation, bring your documentation and we’ll take a look at it together.

Appointments & Hours

When are you open?

We are open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. We are closed on weekends and statutory holidays. We have a safe key drop box if you need to drop your vehicle and keys off outside of our hours.

If your schedule is tight, call us at 705-719-1207 and we’ll do our best to find a time that works.

Do I need an appointment, or do you take walk-ins?

Appointments are strongly recommended. They help us make sure we have the right technician available and enough time set aside to do your job properly. That said, if you’re dealing with something unexpected and need to bring the vehicle in, call us first, we’ll let you know whether we can fit you in that day or find the earliest available time. We don’t like turning people away, and we’ll always try to help.

When it comes to your safety retorque after any tire service, please pop in during office hours after 80-100kms of driving and we’ll quickly tighten your wheels. It takes two minutes and there’s no charge.

How do I book an appointment?

The easiest way is to call us at 705-719-1207 during business hours. You can also send us a message through our contact page and we will get back to you promptly. When you reach out, let us know the year, make, and model of your vehicle, a brief description of what you’re experiencing or what service you need, and your availability, and we’ll take it from there. Stay tuned for online booking!

Do you have a drop box for early morning drop-off?

Yes. If you need to drop your vehicle off before we open, we have a key drop box at the shop. Leave your keys with a note including your name, phone number, and a description of the issue or service needed, and we’ll get to it first thing and follow up with you. This is a good option if you need to drop before your workday starts.

Where are you located and is there parking?

We are located at 140 Brock Street, Unit 2, Barrie, ON L4N 2M4. There is parking available on site. We are in the same plaza as Fix Auto Barrie North. If you’re having trouble finding us, call us at 705-719-1207 and we’ll talk you in. You can also find us on Google Maps.
